Frank Christensen, M.D., is the medical director of the Aesthetic Facial and Ocular Plastic Surgery Center. His practice is limited to cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the face, eyelids, eye, and orbits. His uniquely qualified as a subspecialist. He is recognized as board certified by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Facial plastic surgery often involves complex operations involving the eyelids and orbital structures. Trained as a subspecialist in this area Dr. Christensen is fellowship trained. He is recognized for membership in ASOPRS in the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and is also board certified in Ophthalmology. He has practiced and taught for 25 years. He is the only surgeon in North Carolina that has had a teaching appointment in Department of Ophthalmology (UNC) and a Department of Plastic Surgery (Duke). Although in private practice in Chapel Hill since 1980, he also has a faculty appointment at Duke in the division of Plastic Surgery.

A native of Salt Lake City, Dr. Christensen graduated magna cum laude from the University of Utah with a double-major in biology and liberal arts. He then earned his medical degree at St. Louis University and conducted medical research at Washington University in St. Louis. After serving as the emergency room director at Gladwin Area Hospital in Michigan, Dr. Christensen completed an ophthalmology residency at Duke Medical Center. He also completed subspecialty fellowship training in oculo-facial plastic surgery in Chicago and in orbital disease and surgery in London, England.
